Often this means fewer than 1,000 calories per day, sometimes even less. This usually happens without professional guidance. Entire food groups are eliminated and meals are replaced by shakes or very small portions. The goal is rapid weight loss, but that speed comes at a cost. The body does not receive enough fuel to function optimally, which affects several bodily processes.<\/p>\n<h3>Impact of a crash diet on the body<\/h3>\n<p>When you suddenly start eating much less, your body switches to a kind of energy-saving mode. At first you mainly lose water and glycogen rather than body fat. In addition, the body also breaks down muscle mass to obtain energy.
